Saturday Tutor Teams!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

Our Saturday Tutor Teams Program will be re-starting at the beginning of October 2009! Please contact us now to set up a time to meet with us in September and start tutoring by the first week of October.

The objectives of the Saturday Tutor Teams Program is to provide Dreamers with supplemental educational support through literacy, math and other activities to help strengthen and improve academic performance. We will create clear, measurable goals for each Dreamer, while monitoring progress through formal assessments, parent-teacher conferences and volunteer/student self reports.

As a volunteer in the program, you will be matched with an individual student with whom you will work with throughout the remainder of the school year. Lesson plans created by our Tutor Teams Coordinator focus on skills that the students must improve in order to be successful in school. All of the children in the Ravenswood "I Have a Dream" Program are entering the 6th or 7th grade. The position will also incorporate recreational interaction with the children but the main purpose is to provide academic assistance.

The tutoring will take place on Saturdays from 10:30-12:00. An orientation will be held on October 11, 2008 and tutoring will begin the following week. Please feel free to visit our website at www.ravenswoodihad.org for more information about the Ravenswood 2 "I Have a Dream" Program.

Only basic math and literacy skills are required for 6th and 7th grade school work. It is helpful, but not necessary, to have experience working with children in middle school. Training and supervision will be provided. You must be willing to make the commitment to work with the child for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year.
