Volunteer Opportunity Details:

St. Francis Xavier seeks volunteers to help provide safe, caring shelter for homeless individuals who might otherwise sleep on the streets. The St. Francis Xavier shelter is a community-based shelter serving 12 homeless men from the John Huess House (a Drop-In Center for the homeless). Volunteers prepare snacks, distribute linens and towels, clean up, spend time interacting with guests. Volunteers stay the night at the shelter, and everyone including the volunteer gets a good night's sleep. Hours are from 8pm to 6am. A one night per month commitment is preferred.

Volunteers for the overnight shelter program attend an open house that provides an overview of The Partnership, homelessness and volunteer opportunities. Our Client Service and Shelter Training is for volunteers 18 and older who have attended an Open House and wish to work directly with clients.

Necessary skills include the ability to work independently, dependability, good judgment, flexibility, good-natured, and a friendly disposition.
