Volunteer Opportunity Details: |
|
- * VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for a men's shelter * *
The shelter is open every night of the week, so the men that sleep there are regulars. As a result we are able to maintain a relatively homey and respectful environment.
Volunteer responsibilities include arriving at the shelter around 8:15pm, hosting about 10 men, and closing up the shelter in the morning. The lights go out at 11pm, come on at 6am, and everyone, volunteers included, is generally asleep during those 7 hours.
Volunteers are trained by other experienced volunteers and stay in pairs.
We ask that volunteers be able to commit on a regular basis (every week/every other week/once a month), in order to provide a few familiar faces.
The first night potential volunteers are shown around, or "trained", by experienced volunteers; after that we discuss each volunteer's interests and possible schedule.
Volunteering requires being able to come up and down a long flight of stairs to the church basement in which the shelter is located.
This opportunity is sponsored by: Broadway Community, Inc.
We need volunteers who are free at these times
