Volunteer Opportunity Details: |
|
Every Saturday from April 19th through October 25th, Rocking the Boat operates free rowing and environmental programs for the general public. Half hour long tours aboard Rocking the Boat's handbuilt craft are offered between 12pm and 5pm and fishing and maritime skills programs take place on shore. Volunteers are needed in order to assist in running this program. This can include helping to prepare community members to get out on the water (fitting them for life jackets, helping them to sign waivers, etc.), running land-based programs for people waiting to get on boats (fishing, knot tying), or even helping to navigate the boats with the public (all boats must have trained Rocking the Boat staff or volunteers on board).
Only the desire to get involved is required! As well, all volunteers must be over the age of 21 and successfully complete a Rocking the Boat criminal and sex-offender background check. Volunteers will be trained on boat handling and basic environmental education strategies and will be closely supported in their work.
