Volunteer Opportunity Details:

We are in need of volunteers for our pantry to take food downstairs when our shipments arrive or to prepare bags of food on Wednesday mornings for around 2/12 hours. On Fridays we distribute the food.
You will be assigned a task. The task could be handing out the food,passing out the numbers, or whatever task that may be needed. According to your availability,you choose what day or both you are most generally able to help.

It is our desire to not only give out needed food but to also build relationships in our community. In deed we have been doing this since 1984. Our community appreciates what we are doing as expressed to us from time to time.

A monthly schedule will be given you of the days and time you are expected to work as well as to be off. Fridays however is when I mostly need the help.

To volunteer your services in our pantry, call John Cobberti at 718-204-6471 EX 321. Upon joining our other volunteers, You will receive my cell phone number should you not be able to come on the day assigned. If no contact is made by you and do not come at your appointed time, I will remove your name from our staff of volunteers.

There are no requirements to volunteer at our pantry.

From Manhattan take the R/V uptown Queens and get off at 46th Street. After exiting subway on Broadway, cross Broadway and walk up 46th Steet going the opposite way of traffic flow. Our building is midway up on the right between Broadway and Newtown Rd. From Jamaica to Manhattan: Take the R/V towards Manhattan and exit at 46th Street stop. After exiting subway, walk up 46 going against the flow of traffic towards Newtown Road and our building is at 31-65 46th between Broadway and Newtown Rd.   Nearest Metro/Subway Stop: 46th Street in Queens,   Walk distance (in minutes): 2 min   Nearest Bus Stop: 104 (goes up Broadway), 2 min minute walk

Great volunteer opportunity

I have had a wonderful time volunteering for the New York School of Urban Ministry so far. Hearing the people express their gratitude to me and the organization when i hand out bags of food to them makes me feel really good about myself and helping others. I would say i gained communication skills when i interact with the the other volunteers and the people who come to get the food.
