Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

The Mexican Educational Foundation of New York (MexEd) is looking for mentors to work with Mexican youth in NYC.

MexEd is a non-profit organization that promotes educational attainment and community leadership among Mexican immigrants and their children, especially the undocumented. Currently, our primary means of achieving this mission is an after-school enrichment program, which is based at Washington Irving High School in Union Square. The majority of the program participants, who are between 14 and 18 years old, would like to have a mentor – and so, we’re looking for dedicated mentors!

A mentor can provide his/her mentee with:
-Academic support
-A positive role model
-A stable relationship with a compassionate adult

Description of volunteer position:
-Have a relationship with a student for at least one school year
-Get in touch with your mentee at least once a week (at the least), and spend at least 4 hours a month with your mentee
-Participate in both academic activities (e.g., helping with homework or the college application process) and social activities
-Attend MexEd’s required orientations and special events
-Communicate with the program coordinator once a month about the status of your relationship with your mentee

If you’d like more information about the program, including a brochure or the mentor application, please get in touch with us via e-mail or visit our web site! Thank you for your interest!
