We are seeking an intern to work alongside NICE’s Youth Coordinator in the development and implementation of an on going after school program in co-operation with I.S. 235 the Academy for New Americans based in Astoria, Queens. N.I.C.E.’s after school program aims to give immigrant youth a voice in their new community by helping to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings and environment, not as observers of this environment, but as active participants in their new communities. Immigrant youth are encouraged to identify problems in their community that they are personally affected by and then taught to conceptualize, design and organize a community service project which address these problems.

- Brainstorm and create new units or sub-units for Curriculum, as needed
- Aid in administrative tasks such as attendance input
- Coordinate and attend field trips to local arts organizations
- Assist in end of school year activities: Student exhibit of work/community service project, party, T-shirts
We ask for interns to commit to the duration of the spring semester (January to end of June except spring break). Internship is unpaid.
