Volunteer Opportunity Details: |

We are looking for and intern to work alongside NICE’s Membership and Education Coordinator in administering, developing and coordinating of our adult educational programs including the ESOL through Civic Literacy Program and the Parent Workshops. Our ESOL through Civic Literacy Program which meets in the evenings at NICE’s offices provides a flexible and non-judgmental environment where students can come together to increase English language fluency and gain confidence in their ability to speak English for civic, social and political purposes. Our Parent Workshops are conducted in collaboration with JH 185 and I.S. 237 and cover similar topics. Sample units and workshop topics include: Work and Workers Rights, Immigrant Access to Health Care, Immigrant Banking Rights, Immigrant Rights, etc.
Under the direction of the Membership and Education Coordinator, the Education Intern will:
- Help with the administration of both programs including maintaining attendance files, progress reports, student databases
- Help register new and old students for both programs.
- Assists in curriculum development and research for both programs
- Play a support role for teachers in the ESOL through Civic Literacy Program
We prefer that the intern be bilingual in either Spanish, Chinese, Korean
