Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Youth Venture New York is looking for Changemaker Coaches, who are motivated and passionate educators and youth workers to help facilitate workshops for high school students from February through June. Workshops will be structured in 4-5 hour sessions on Tuesdays, 12 pm until 5 pm throughout the spring, scheduled to begin in February. There is also an overnight retreat (Friday afternoon until Sunday morning) in late March. Youth Venture New York will provide training, guidance, and support.

Responsibilities include:

• A time commitment of 4-5 hours on most, but not all, Tuesday afternoons throughout Spring 2009.
• Facilitate small group discussions about community issues, youth’s passions, and modes of leadership and creative thinking
• Foster a safe-sharing space and maintain an encouraging environment for all participants,
• Lead activities to build community and teamwork between participants,
• Support the ideas and dreams of youth as they go through the process of launching a community service venture.
• MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR TRAINING DAY ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2009
  
  

• Background in working with youth ages 14-18
• Commitment to community service and youth empowerment
• Willingness to take some leadership roles in activity facilitation
• Adept public speaker
• Familiarity with issues facing urban youth in New York City
• Willingness to travel within the city
• Some flexibility of scheduling
