CAM AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

With a history of quality exhibitions and public programs, the Chelsea Art Museum (CAM) has established itself as a premier small museum. Since opening in 2002, the Museum has grown by leaps and bounds, now welcoming over 100,000 visitors annually and cultivating an active member base. CAM is eager to expand its role as a staple in the Chelsea neighborhood, as well as in the larger New York City community. Accordingly, while continuing to grow in size, the Museum strives to maintain its characteristic charm that stems from an intimate setting.

To achieve this, the Chelsea Art Museum is launching CAM Ambassador Program, a new volunteer program consisting of a dedicated group of individuals who will donate their time to the Museum to lead exhibition tours, contribute to our education programs, and generally facilitate the public’s interaction with the museum.

Position description
CAM ambassadors serve as the face of the museum to visitors, welcoming them and being a resource of information about the museum and its exhibitions. CAM ambassador is a volunteer hybrid position between docent and security guard. In other words, ambassadors spend time in the galleries encouraging guests to learn about the museum while supervising the galleries to ensure the safety and preservation of the artwork. They may also lead exhibition tours of the Museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a background in and/or passion for contemporary art or arts education, strong public speaking skills, and comfort working with people of all backgrounds, ages, and levels of familiarity with art. Fluency in one or more foreign languages is preferable.

Compensation
CAM ambassadors enjoy free access to CAM’s exhibitions and extensive public programming including concerts, theater, dance performances, panel discussions etc. They also receive invitations to exhibition opening receptions and CAM parties and are provided free admission passes for friends and family.

This is a terrific opportunity to get involved in New York’s thriving art scene and to take advantage of everything CAM has to offer all while making a valuable contribution to a charitable organization!

Training and time commitment
CAM ambassadors are trained by Museum staff and provided information about the museum and the exhibitions. Although a long-term commitment is preferable CAM is extremely flexible when coordinating volunteers and can accommodate candidates with both extensive and limited time to donate.
