Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

The All Stars Project is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting human development through the use of an innovative performance-based model. The ASP creates outside of school, educational and performing arts activities for thousands of poor and minority young people. We have succeeded in bringing together a diverse group of youth, volunteers, and both corporate and cultural sponsors at our development center on 42nd street. This space houses community and experimental theatre, develops leadership training, and pursues volunteer initiatives that build and strengthen communities.

Youth Onstage! offers young people, ages 14 to 21, the opportunity to perform in and create plays that have something to say about the world and its future. During its first four years, Youth Onstage! has produced seven plays, six Hip-Hop Cabarets, two installments of Word on the Street: A Poetry Snap, and several world premiere play readings of new works by young authors. All productions are performance experiments, designed to challenge its performers and audiences to think and feel outside the box. They tackle difficult social and political issues and create an environment in which contemporary urban youth can express their experiences and perspectives through performance and share them with a diverse audience of adults and young people from throughout New York City and beyond.

Young people can get involved in Youth Onstage! by applying to the free after-school performance training program, an integrated course of intensive performance classes taught by volunteer teachers with professional theater training. Theater professionals are needed to teach various improvisation and technical classes during the Fall, Spring, and the Summer. The Fall and Spring schedule is a ten week program that meets once a week for 90 minute classes. The Summer program runs four times a week for 60 minute classes.
