~~ABOUT BEHIND THE BOOK~~
Behind the Book is a literary nonprofit that promotes literacy and a reading culture among low-income students in New York City Schools. Behind the Book’s mission is to excite children and young adults about reading. We bring authors and their books into individual classrooms to build students’ literacy skills and nurture a new generation of book readers. We currently serve nine schools across the city and reach an average of 920 students. We work closely with teachers to select books whose authors or subjects resonate with students. By reaching students at their level, Behind the Book aims to cultivate an enjoyment of books that spurs growth in literacy skills and that stimulates exploration of literature and an abiding interest in reading.
~~BOOK CLUB COORDINATOR~~
Behind the Book is offering a unique volunteer opportunity for an avid reader with fundraising and outreach experience. We are seeking an individual with strong communication and fundraising skills to work with book clubs in the New York City area. The Book Club Coordinator will actively reach out to reading groups and be the liaison between Behind the Book and the groups. We are looking for someone who can communicate our mission and organization goals effectively to a variety of persons and can work independently. Interest and passion about education and educational equity is a plus.
To apply, please send a resume and cover letter highlighting your relevant experience to Sarata Toriola at Sarata@behindthebook.org.
Behind the Book is an equal opportunity employer and especially welcomes applications from women and people of color.
