Be a youth worker for the Excel Program, you can be deployed in our office helping with administration, development, or youth work.
Since 1996, GDS has empowered more than 500 teens to make unprecedented changes through a comprehensive therapeutic program of educational and personal guidance, practical skills, and positive peer interaction. The core mentorship program is enhanced by individual and group counseling, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention.
Annually GDS initiates its teens at Camp Excel in Upstate New York where they begin a process of healing without feeling threatened by
the rampant negative influences in their neighborhood. After bonding at Camp Excel, the teens return prepared to attend our after-school program, where they set and achieve personal goals through the innovative Reach Your Potential behavior modification model, which rewards teens for improving academic achievement, school attendance, and social behavior.
Volunteers must contact the office, complete an application, be interviewed by the clinical staff, submit an updated medical form, and have a background check.
