Social Networking and Event Planning Internship

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS), a social service agency on the Upper East Side that offers safe, affordable housing and helps homeless men and women identify and achieve their goals for productive and rewarding lives, is seeking a part-time intern (unpaid) to assist the Development and Communications Department.

Responsibilities:
• Establish and maintain NCS’s social networking presence on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
• Serve as liaison to the Young Professionals Committee
• Manage online communications including e-mail blasts, social networking sites and blog postings
• Assist in event planning, promotion and production
• Coordinate event mailings
• Make phone calls and send emails
• Monitor social networking strategies in the nonprofit industry, report on trends and best practices

The individual will gain valuable nonprofit development experience and become well versed in using social networking as a marketing and fundraising vehicle—an increasingly desirable skill in the fields of fundraising, marketing, public relations, and communications.

This internship is flexible, allowing you to work virtually, with scheduled in-office meetings. Hours per week will be 20 or less, and is planned to start ASAP.

Requirements:
• Willingness to learn about NCS programs that serve homeless and formerly homeless individuals
• Demonstrate social networking savvy; well versed in MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and blogging
• Excellent facility with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Superb oral and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail required
• Must be outgoing and possess a professional demeanor
• Ability to respond well to guidance and supervision, coupled with the ability to work independently
• Interest in non-profit fundraising and communications preferred
