YAI/NIPD’s Employment Initiatives Department increases employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through training in employability behaviors and job-specific skills, on-site training and follow along support, job development and education/outreach to parents, professionals and the business community. We believe that every individual is capable of contributing to society and that persons with disabilities can be more productive and self-sufficient, given adequate training and support.
The BAC is comprised of representatives from over 50 Fortune 500 and other prominent companies in New York City and Long Island. Each ember shares a commitment to YAI/NIPD's mission of providing integrated employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
BAC Meetings are held four times per year from 8am-10am at various Manhattan Corporations.
The Role of the Business Advisory Council is to:
•Assist in networking with other employers to increase employment opportunities for persons with disabilities
•Educate employers about the benefits of hiring person with disabilities for positions within their companies
•Facilitate the hiring of YAI trainees with disabilities as employees within BAC companies
•Provide guidance regarding labor market and employment trends in industry
•Provide feedback regarding marketing strategies and materials developed
•Share training material/curricula so that training programs reflect current and future industry standards and practices
•Promote and support the mission of YAI by publicizing special events
