Mentoring for Adolescents in Need
Last updated on June 9, 2009

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

SCO-Ottilie is a Residential Treatment Facility for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 21 who have been diagnosed with Mild MR and a severe emotional disorder. Our residents have very little resources in the community and we are looking to provides them with one on one mentors who will work with the same child each week for approximately six months. This opportunity allows volunteers to give to a population that lacks family resources and is desperately in need of caring and supportive individuals in their lives. Mentors work one on one with their resident to promote positive self-esteem and support through activities such as arts and crafts, sports and recreational outings in the community. One of the best things about this program is witnessing the excitement of a child when their mentor comes for a visit and the enthusiasm that they bring to the activities.

Our volunteers are screened through State Central Registry and should not have a prior criminal record or history of abuse. We seek mature and caring individuals to work with our children.
