September is National Preparedness Month. We’re kicking it off citywide on Wednesday, September 2 and we need your help!

To jumpstart a month full of activities, the New York City Citizen Corps Council has planned the fifth annual citywide kickoff event to distribute emergency preparedness and volunteerism information to New York City residents. With locations across the five boroughs and shifts all day long, it’s easy to be a part of this exciting event and we need your help!

When:
Wednesday, September 2nd. Suggested volunteer shifts are two hours long beginning at 6:00 AM and ending at 7:00 PM.

We will need most of our volunteers during the morning rush, lunch, and evening rush hours. Over the course of the day hundreds of volunteers will:
-Staff tables at each location
-Distribute the Ready New York Pocket Guide, NYC CCC Volunteer Guide, and free hand sanitizer to the public
-Talk about their volunteer experiences
(Please note that there may be additional specialized instructions for the Times Square site).

Where:
All five boroughs. Event locations are:
Brooklyn: Borough Hall (Columbus Park)
Bronx: The Hub (149th Street and 3rd Avenue)
Manhattan: Times Square
Staten Island: Staten Island Ferry Terminal
Queens: Queens Library Flushing Branch (Main Street and Kissena Boulevard)

At Times Square, the Ad Council will be joining us to kick off a national, as well as a NYC-specific, preparedness ad campaign and the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has confirmed her attendance. Get ready for a fun and rewarding experience!

To volunteer:
Please RSVP by sending an e-mail to citizencorps@oem.nyc.gov. Please include the following information:

-Languages you speak fluently
-Hours you can work
