JASA’s PETS Project aims to assist senior citizens living in Manhattan with tasks necessary to care for their beloved companion animals. The PETS Project is always in need of more compassionate, animal-loving volunteers to assist our clients, many of whom are physically unable to perform some of the duties necessary to take care of their pets. Cat owners are in particular need, so if you are a cat lover or a dog lover willing to broaden your horizons, we need you! A clean litter box or a nice scratch behind the ears enhances the lives of the pets that volunteers care for, and the pets in turn enrich the lives of their elderly companions. One visit a week to help a client change a litter box or teach Fluffy to fetch can make a world of difference in helping a senior keep his or her pet!
We hope you will join us in our effort to enrich and assist in the lives of cats and their owners!
JASA (Jewish Association for Services for the Aged) is the largest community based social service agency serving the elderly in the New York area. JASA provides an array of social services to New York area seniors with the mission of enabling the elderly to live independently for as long as possible.
Please email volunteer@jasa.org for more information or if you are interested in volunteering. Training will be required and offered. Volunteers must be 18 or older unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
