Girls for Gender Equity is committed to the physical, psychological, social and economic development of girls and women. Through education, organizing and physical fitness, Girls for Gender Equity encourages communities to remove barriers and create opportunities for girls and women to live self-determined lives. GGE strives to meet the vision of our strategic plan – developed through the Columbia University Business School’s Institute for Not-For-Profit Management – to become, by 2011, Central Brooklyn’s premier grassroots, community-based, girls’ rights organization providing the community and other organizations with innovative after-school programs that nurture the optimal development of girls and women while organizing around the ten points of Title IX of the Education Amendment.

Health & Fitness Program establishes and maintains comprehensive programming for NYC schools and CBO's to coordinate girl's participation in equitable fitness activities, self-determination groups, educational health workshops and civil rights campaigns. Activities include:
• After school Fitness Programs (basketball, boxing and soccer)
• Health education workshops (HIV/AIDS, Obesity, Puberty)
• Self-Determination Groups
• National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD)
• Mother/Daughter Health and Play Day

Girls for Gender Equity (GGE)'s Program Coordinator Intern will work with us during the 2009 – 2010 school year:

  • Organizing girls' sports programs (basketball, soccer, and boxing) and health workshops in schools and community organizations
  • Organizing field trips to WNBA games and attending school basketball tournaments
  • Facilitating a girls’ empowerment group
