Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

Dear Math Enthusiasts,

Top Honors is a non-profit educational company that provides free math tutoring to motivated 6th through 8th-graders from the Upper West Side and Harlem.

Tutoring takes place on Saturdays at a school on the Upper West Side. There are two sessions:

  • Morning session runs from 10:30AM-12:30PM
  • Afternoon session runs from 1:30PM-3:30PM

We are also adding a Tuesday evening session beginning in January 2010:

  • Tuesdays from 6:30PM-8:00PM.

Tutors are expected to tutor in one of the sessions each week. The tutor volunteers currently come from a variety of industries such as finance, law, retail and medicine as well as some highly-qualified high school students. Top Honors was awarded a grant from the Columbia Community Service office and Citigroup Foundation to continue its work with education in the community.

TOP HONORS, Inc., believes in the concept of "EDUTAINMENT," combining math with fun. Tutors use a unique step-by-step curriculum that motivates students to learn with use of educational games and competitions. Tutor candidates should be professionals or advanced high school students who are comfortable with mathematics (through basic algebra) and enjoy working with students. Ideal tutors should have enthusiasm, patience and creativity to come up with different ways to teach students in order to best fit the student's learning abilities.

Please contact us at info@tophonors.org or give us a call at (212)-662-0573 to join.
Please contact us for more details or to schedule an orientation appointment.
More information can also be found on our website: www.tophonors.org.

Volunteers may be professionals, college, or advanced high school students (volunteer credit is available for high schoolers).
Applicants should be available on Saturdays or Tuesdays, like math and working with children.
