Become a part of the positive change that is happening at Abraham House. Abraham House offers the incarcerated and their relatives a place of hope and community, where they receive spiritual, social and practical tools to become productive citizens.
We are able to provide our services and program to our community because of the support, generosity, and dedication of our amazing volunteer team. This year one of our volunteers raised over $4,000.00 and ran in the NYC Marathon on behalf of Abraham House.
Abraham House is seeking an organized, personable, creative and enthusiastic individual who shares the same passion for volunteerism and supporting families in the South Bronx. Basic computer and phone skills are a must. Prefer individual who can commit at least 6 month period minimum six hours per week.
If you are interested or experienced in Volunteer or Human Resources management, this is a great opportunity to get involved! Training opportunities will be available. Work closely with Volunteer Coordinator in the recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers. Help support Volunteer Coordinator during events and management of on-site volunteers.
Other Requirements:
Manages the logistics of the recruiting process by:
•advertising job openings and volunteer opportunities internally and externally
•Writes ads and posts on the internet in places appropriate to the open position
•Manages the flow of applications and provides first review of resumes
•Maintains a filing system that retains qualified applications [for one year]
Assists with new-employee orientation by:
•Preparing paper work required for new hires and volunteers
•Establishes a personnel/ volunteer file
•Assists in the development and implementation of an employee handbook and new personnel policies and procedures
Qualifications:
•Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment.
•Effective oral and written communication skills
•General knowledge of various employment laws and practices
•Experience in administration of benefits and other HR programs
•Excellent interpersonal skills
•Skills in database management and record keeping
•Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality
•Excellent organizational skills
•Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
•Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully
