Volunteer Opportunity Details: |

Core Responsibilities:
• Greet clients as they arrive and direct them to appropriate check-in point
• Supervise playroom/waiting area activity
• Creatively engage children in age-appropriate games and activities
Additional Tasks (may include):
• Answer phones and intercom system as needed
• Distribute snacks and meals to children in waiting area
• Assist children with homework
• Create and administer educational activities for children ages 4-12
• Develop a working knowledge of the center and the role of volunteers
• Provide recommendations to improve the center’s volunteer usage
• Perform additional tasks assigned by Safe Horizon staff members
Qualifications:
• Willingness to give time and energy to fulfill the goals of the center
• Human relations skills necessary to communicate with staff and clients
• Willingness to work in an environment where clients may be in distress
• Ability to work both independently and as part of the team
• Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks
• Ability to work with a diverse staff and client population
• Ability to establish rapport and enjoy play activities with children of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds
• Creative skills in developing activities for children
• Awareness of impact of victimization on families and children
• Application and screening process
• Background check
• Fingerprinting (varies by program)
• Review and sign confidentiality agreement
