Mission: Big Apple Greeter was founded in 1992 with a mission to enhance the worldwide image of New York City. The organization's primary program is its free Greeter service, which is offered to visitors to New York City. Big Apple Greeter matches visitors with volunteer New Yorkers who act as hosts, on informal explorations of New York's diverse neighborhoods. Our volunteers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic New Yorkers who want to share their love of the city with visitors from around the world.
Activities: Big Apple Greeter is looking for a volunteer for the following:
• Writing communications, including press releases and updates to our website
• Working with the program Founder to focus on the new “Greeter for a Day” program, in which CEOs and other top executives have the opportunity to be a Greeter in a neighborhood of their choice.
• Updating press log and maintaining
Benefits: Good opportunity for a retired person with communication experience or a graduate student who wishes to gain real world experience. This volunteer would work with staff and volunteers in a friendly environment, and would also have the potential to work with CEOs and other executives.
Qualifications: This person should have excellent writing and computer skills; expertise in working with traditional and new media; a talent for communication and promotion.
Time Commitment: 2-4 days a week; flexible.
