Mission: Big Apple Greeter was founded in 1992 with a mission to enhance the worldwide image of New York City. The organization's primary program is its free Greeter service, which is offered to visitors to New York City. Big Apple Greeter matches visitors with volunteer New Yorkers who act as hosts, on informal explorations of New York's diverse neighborhoods. Our volunteers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic New Yorkers who want to share their love of the city with visitors from around the world.
Position Summary: Big Apple Greeter’s Director of Development seeks a part-time Volunteer Grant Writer. The ideal candidate will have a several years of grant-writing experience.
Benefits: Good opportunity for a retired person with fundraising experience or a graduate student who wishes to gain real world experience. This volunteer would work with staff and volunteers in a friendly environment.
Responsibilities:
• Write, edit, and coordinate inquiries, proposals, and reports for government agencies, corporations and foundations.
• Conduct research to find funding opportunities and potential donors.
• Maintain a calendar to track grant and reporting deadlines.
• Special projects and duties as assigned, including assistance with fundraising events.
Qualifications: This person should have excellent writing, research and computer skills.
Time Commitment: 8-12 hours a week; flexible.
