Volunteer Opportunity Details: |
|
Volunteers are needed to help with the repair and restoration of our sixteen foot Melonseed Skiff, "Momentum," built in 2005 by Rocking the Boat students. After breaking her East River mooring during an October gale, she was rescued from the rocks by Rocking the Boat's fearless staff. She sustained significant damage to the lower three planks on both her port and her starboard, which will need to be replaced. We will also be using this opportunity to repair her forward bulkhead, fix a leak at the stem, replace her rubrails, and add a toerail. This will be wonderful opportunity get a traditional wooden boat back on the water, while contributing to a youth development program that seeks to empower and inspire young people in the South Bronx.
Due to the highly technical nature of the project, boatbuilding or carpentry experience is preferred. If you are interested in volunteering, but do not have such experience, please contact us anyway, as we will certainly be able to keep you busy.
