Nancy's Friends is a new program at the Weill Cornell Medical Center. The Nancy’s Friends Program is designed to facilitate much needed support for cancer patients and their families. Specially trained volunteers fulfill this distinctive role and are valued members of the care team. Volunteers also support other members of the care team in achieving the goals of care for patients. They can offer a sense of continuity to patients and families located on the Oncology Unit of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Volunteers will provide supportive listening, a healing touch, liaison assistance with other caregivers, life review and reminiscence therapy and assistance with patient orientation, feeding and mobility.
Volunteers must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent listening skills and the desire to work with very sick and/or terminally ill patients. Volunteers should be at least 14 years of age (a very mature 14 years) and be able to commit to volunteering for four hours per week.
