Volunteer Opportunity Details:

I'm interested in this opportunity

Going into our thirteenth season of programming, Girls Write Now is seeking the leadership and resources needed to sustain us well into the future. That's where you come in. We're looking for passionate writers, teachers, and leaders just like you. Your contribution will help us refine our services and expand our programs in order to reach more young voices in more communities across New York City.

Girls Write Now is looking for Mentor Volunteers who are:

  • Experienced and passionate women writers from a range of professions.

  • Dedicated to guiding the artistic, academic, and professional aspirations of young women.

  • Willing to work collectively with the organization and to recognize the importance of a supportive community in creative expression.

  • Prepared to make clear, frequent, and tenacious communication with our leadership, other volunteers, and our girls.

  • Able to make a serious commitment from September 2009-June 2010 to weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions, monthly group workshops and special events, and co-leadership of one workshop per season. We ask for at least 4 hours per month in addition to attending our monthly workshops, but we encourage you to contribute as much as you are able and willing.

  • looking to serve on one of our five volunteer teams. As a weekly mentor, we know you’ll be making a significant contribution of time already, but we’ve found that involvement on a team is the best way for you to get to know other members, and also for us to get to know you – that’s the “community” part of Girls Write Now!

What you can expect from us:

We are a lean, hard-working, enthusiastic, and supportive group. You can expect training and support, as well as frequent and compassionate communication from our leadership to ensure that your volunteer experience with Girls Write Now is truly rewarding. We'll see you at the workshop!
