Volunteer Opportunity Details: |

We are currently seeking committed, energetic, mission-driven volunteer peer educators to conduct education, outreach and community networking. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in learning how to make public presentations through interactions with community members and advocate for women and their families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. This is also an excellent opportunity for college students seeking internship and individuals seeking work experience. Stipend and travel reimbursement provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*Must participate in a rigorous three month training and one month internship.
*Conduct HIV prevention education workshops in neighborhood clinic settings as well as shelters, detoxification centers and hospitals.
*Conduct risk reduction workshops in institutions.
*Facilitate support groups for women infected or affected by HIV at Life Force offices.
*Provide HIV prevention education, literature and condoms in street outreach settings.
*Participate in conferences and workshops on HIV and HIV-related health issues.
*Attend debriefing and on-going training sessions each Wednesday morning and complete related administrative tasks.
*Comply with Life Force's policy and procedures as delineated in the Peer Educator Manual.
*Must commit to at least one year of service to Life Force upon completion of training.
Qualifications:
*Must be at least 18 yrs. old.
*Must be drug free for at least 2 years.
*Capable and interested in learning about HIV transmission and prevention.
*Able to work with a variety of people in a friendly and professional manner.
*Bilingual a plus.
